Sonoma County
Petaluma splits at Highway 101. West of it are the Victorian streets around downtown and the newer homes up the western hills. East and south of it the subdivisions end fast, and the land opens into pasture that runs to the foot of Sonoma Mountain and down the Petaluma River to the marsh.
That open country is where most of our Petaluma work is. Lakeville Highway, Old Adobe Road, Adobe Road, Ely Road and the lanes off them carry working dairies, livestock and farm operations, horse properties and homes on acreage, and wired service usually stops at the edge of town. Penngrove, up the road at the foot of the mountain, is the same story on old poultry-ranch lots.
Open pasture and low hills are good terrain for fixed wireless. The usual obstacles are eucalyptus windbreaks, the oaks around a homestead and the odd fold of a hill, so the site survey decides the mount. Once the house is connected we often carry the signal on to a barn or shop.

Yes, that is a normal part of a ranch install here. We cover the house first, then reach outbuildings with outdoor access points or a point-to-point link, which also takes care of gate cameras and a tack-room computer. Distance and walls decide the method, so we scope it on the survey.
Fog and the Petaluma Gap breeze are part of daily life here, and they are not what takes a link down. A loose mount or a tree that has grown into the path is, which is why our team installs the antenna, sets it firmly, and monitors the network around the clock.
